Positive Behaviour Support on the Sunshine Coast
We’re on a mission to create freedom and social connection for people with disability through easy access to Positive Behaviour Support.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in an evidence-based approach designed to improve a person’s quality of life by building new support strategies, skills and behaviours to meet your needs and goals.
We consider what is important to you, including your needs, routines, values, strengths and any behaviours of concern. Your behaviour support practitioner will seek to understand and help find positive ways of communicating and interacting with others.
We build your behaviour support plan in partnership with you and your support team, and we review this plan over time. If funding allows, your behaviour support plan may also include training to help you and your support team implement strategies included in your PBS plan.
Here’s a great video where Belinda explains Positive Behaviour Support:

How NDIS participants on the Sunshine Coast benefit from Positive Behaviour Support
Positive Behaviour Support helps improve your quality of life. This means your behaviour support practitioner will find out what is important to you and help you overcome challenges that may be stopping you from living your best life.
For example, you may love working with animals and you travel by bus to your local zoo where you work during the week. You live with Cerebral Palsy and may experience significant anxiety and overwhelm when you think about work and when you are at work. Your behaviour support practitioner might recognise that you feel anxious because you find social situations overwhelming. They may suggest strategies for you and those around you, to help you engage in your work with animals and minimise overwhelm, such as:
- using a visual schedule and planning your day with your supervisor ahead of time;
- working in an area where you interact with people you know, and not members of the public;
- travelling with your support worker on the bus until you’re ready to travel alone;
- learning short scripts to give you examples of what you can say in conversations.
Positive Behaviour Support is always about helping you live your best life, and understanding what that best life looks like from your perspective.
